A nurses’ union has said its members face increasingly dangerous working conditions, after an incident in which a worker at Dromokaitio psychiatric hospital, west of Athens, was bitten by a patient allegedly infected with HIV.
The POEDIN union says its member is now at risk of contracting the virus, and it hit out at a “collapse of the welfare state” in Greece’s hospital system.
It says there is an increase in the number of patients with drug issues who can become violent due to their mental state.
