FYROM President Says He Will Not Sign Deal with Greece

The first serious obstacle to the agreement to solve the naming dispute between Greece and FYROM appeared on Wednesday when the president of FYROM Gjorge Ivanov made it clear that he will not sign it.
In a television address in Skopje, Ivanov called the agreement “damaging”, “unworthy” and “unacceptable”.
“It violates the constitution, laws, and destroys state institutions. I will not legalize this amateur political move,” the president stated.
Commenting on a meeting he had earlier with Prime Minister Zoran Zaev and Foreign Minister Nikola Dimitrov, he said he told them they alone bear the responsibility for the deal they brought.
The deal reached by the two countries’ prime ministers is expected to be signed by their foreign ministers this weekend. After that, FYROM’s parliament would vote on it, and if it is approved, Mr Ivanov’s signature would be needed.
If the president refuses to sign, the deal would return to parliament for another vote. Mr Ivanov would have to sign off on the agreement if it passes a second time.
