Greek Beaches Clear of 2017 Saronic Oil Spill, Tests Show

Tests have revealed that the waters of Greece’s Saronic Gulf are free of pollutants following last year’s Agia Zoni II oil spill, local authorities have said.
In comments to the Athens-Macedonian News Agency (AMNA) mayor of Saronikos, Giorgos Sofronis, said findings by the Greek Center for Marine Research from tests in 2017 and 2018 showed no traces of mineral oils.
“The coastal area has been prepared to receive residents and visitors as it is every year,” he told AMNA.
In November 2017 it was reported that those who suffered losses due to the pollution caused by the sinking of the Agia Zoni II oil tanker off the coast of Salamis would be eligible for compensation.
