Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras called on Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to free two Greek servicemen held in an Edirne jail since March, in a phonecall on Monday to congratulate him on winning the elections on Sunday.
According to a statement from the PM’s office, Tsipras highlighted the need for Turkey to release the two servicemen it has detained without charges since early March, noting the importance the issue has for bilateral relations.

A fourth appeal for their release from pre-trial detention was rejected by a Turkish court on June 19.
The two leaders also discussed bilateral cooperation ahead of the European Council meeting on Thursday, in the context of the joint EU-Turkey statement, the press release said, and they agreed to meet on the sidelines of the NATO summit meeting in Brussels in July.
