EU Commissioner Denies Calling for Albania-Greece Border Change

Johannes Hahn

The European Commission has denied one of its most senior figures called for a border change between Greece and Albania.

Responding to a question from Greek newspaper Kathimerini, a spokesman for European Commissioner for Enlargement Johannes Hahn, said “in no way” had the politician suggested a border change.

The remark apparently came during a conference on the Western Balkans on Wednesday when the issue of maritime disputes between Greece and Albania arose.

“While stressing the need to resolve the open bilateral issues prior to any future enlargement, he referred to the ongoing Greek-Albanian talks on the exclusive economic zone, which can only be achieved on the basis of a mutually acceptable agreement between the two countries,” the spokesman told Kathimerini.
