Car fuel prices in Greece have skyrocketed due to the high tourist season, reaching up to €2/$2.35 per liter, despite the fact that oil prices have dropped internationally.
Oil prices have decreased to $73 a barrel, at least $5 down from the high about a month ago, but prices in the Greek market remain high due to increased demand.
On Monday, the average price of car fuel in Attica was €1.617 per liter, having risen up by 1.3 cents since the beginning of the month. In the Dodecanese the price was €1.793 per liter and has increased by 1.8 cents.
In Evritania it was €1.733 (increase of 1.9 cents) in Heraklion €1.702 euros per liter (increase of 0.6 cents), in Laconia €1.659 per liter (increase of 1.1 cents), in Lefkada €1.683 (up 1.2 cents) and in Chania € 1.962 (increase of 1.2 cents).
According to the Liquid Fuel Prices Observatory, gasoline prices in some areas have exceeded €2 per liter. In Fourni village on Ikaria, unleaded gasoline is selling at €2.035 per liter and in Ikaria in general fuel prices are very high, while the average price in the Samos prefecture reaching €1.815 per liter.
Also, gasoline sells close to €2 per liter on the islands of Sikinos, Serifos, Anafi, Milos, Santorini and other areas with high tourist traffic.
