At Least Two Dead, Dozens Injured in Greek Fire


At least two people were killed and dozens injured as wild fires tore through woodland and villages around Athens on Monday, Greek authorities said.
President of Greece’s Ekav emergency service Giorgos Mathiopoulos told SKAI private television that the the two casualties were discovered near the sea-side resorts of Mati, Neos Boutzas and Rafina, northeast of Athens.
Ekav said it had transferred 25 people to hospital, among them four who were seriously injured.
Fire service spokesman Stavroula Maliri said Athens had asked other EU nations to send reinforcements to help tackle the fires.
