Shocking testimonies are emerging surrounding the death of at least 60 people from the blaze that also destroyed the seaside town of Mati, east of Athens.
Eyewitness Maria Patsiou, described how a young girl jumped from the edge of a cliff to her death to evade the approaching fire.
Patsiou said that the 13-year-old girl jumped thinking that she will reach the sea. Instead she crashed on the rocks.
Speaking to Greek site newsit.gr, Patsiou said that she heard a cry and then saw the girl jumping. When she approached, the girl was dead from the impact. She was also covered in burns.
“It was like 9/11. It reminded me of the people jumping from the Twin Towers”, Patsiou said.
