Kalavryta Ski Resort to Receive €20 Million Investment

Kalavryta ski resort

The ski resort of Kalavryta will receive new investment that could reach €20 million ($23 million), according to George Lazouras, the Mayor of the region, in an announcement to the state-run news service AMNA. Kalavryta is located near the city of Patras in the Peloponnese, and is one of the largest ski areas in Southern Greece.
This investment is expected to give an enormous boost to the local economy, as it would make the ski center operational throughout the year, attracting thousands more tourists annually. The funds are expected to come from Greece’s public investment program and will hopefully lead to a total transformation of the local area.
The modernization of the center’s facilities will make it possible to operate in the summer as well, with the addition of more trails, lifts, and paths to the peak of the Helmos mountain. The peak is also the location of the famous Helmos Observatory which boasts the giant telescope ‘Aristarchos’.
