Russian Billionaire Dmitry Rybolovlev Vows to Turn Skorpios Into a "Greek Island Paradise"

Owner of the former Aristotle Onassis private island of Skorpios at the Ionian Sea, Russian tycoon Dmitry Rybolovlev has spoken of his plans for the island in a recent interview.
Speaking to a special edition of the Cypriot publication Wealth Management, Rybolovlev says that the rebuilding of Scorpios will be completed in no more than three years and the result will be the creation of the first luxury accommodation complex in Greece.
“The basic idea is to create a ‘green’ island with the greatest possible use of its existing landscape, structure and incomparable beauty. The investment project, expected to be completed in 2-3 years, includes the luxury resort complex with spa, restaurants, and marina. In addition, there will be showrooms, an amphitheater, a helipad, a farm, and recreation areas,” Rybolovlev said.
As building works are in progress, the Russian billionaire says he plans to turn Skorpios “unique in the Mediterranean.”
“Our family’s goal is to create the first luxury accommodation complex in Greece, located on a private island, to be one of the few in the world, in fact, unique in the Mediterranean. At the same time, all works are being done very carefully and in complete harmony with the environment.”
Captivated by ‘earthly paradise’
Asked by Wealth Management about his favorite holiday destination, Rybolovlev does not hide his fascination for Skorpios which he describes a “paradise.”
“For many years, when my daughters were very young, we were absolutely fascinated with Scorpios. We used to admire the shores from the family yacht and enjoyed cycling around.
“I remember being captivated by this ‘earthly paradise’ with its enchanting natural beauty. After buying it and spending a lot of vacation there, Scorpios means so much to me.
“It’s not just a private shelter that helps me relax, recharge my batteries and return to my responsibilities. It’s the holy place where my first daughter, Katerina, got married. There, I feel completely free to absorb the harmony and tranquility of this particular setting. The whole area of Lefkada is such a beautiful place where I am lucky enough to receive warm Greek hospitality. Every time I visit the area, the locals greet me as friends. And in fact, I feel at home there.”
