"Time Out" Magazine Names Greek Cocktail Best in the World

It is now official: The best cocktail in the entire world is the “Aegean Negroni,” made using Greek ingredients and served at a bar in Athens, Greece, according to the magazine Time Out.
Writers from Time Out spend their lives wandering the globe, searching for the small treasures which are to be found in cities both big and small. The periodicals’ editors have spent countless hours trying to find the best cocktails on the planet — and they found them.
The magazine has now published their Drink List for 2019, a comprehensive guide to the best bars on the planet.
Time Out’s 2019 list includes thirty-six cocktails, both simple and sophisticated, to suit all possible tastes, from a total of twenty-seven cities across eighteen countries. At the very top of the list is a cocktail featuring Greek flavors, which was concocted at the famous bar “The Clumsies,” which features perennially on the list of the best bars in the world.

“The Clumsies” was started up by Nikos Bakoulis and Vasilis Kyritsis, who created the bar in a run-down neoclassical building in the center of Athens, at the very nadir of the recent recession.
Yet the two young men, with a great deal of dedication and hard work, soon managed to place their establishment on the list of the best bars in the entire world. And one of their many imaginative cocktails has now won the coveted distinction of being named the winner of the Time Out competition.
The “Aegean Negroni” shares the fabulous deep blue hues of the Aegean. According to The Clumsies, their recipe for the cocktail uses the bar’s own “spiced gin plus white vermouth, Martini bitters and Martini Ambrato. Fennel seeds and fragrant dittany (a herb which only grows on the island of Crete) give this refreshingly bitter cocktail its distinctive, unmistakably Mediterranean savor.”
Time Out is a global magazine published by the Time Out Group. It began as a London-only publication in 1968, but it has expanded its scope of editorial recommendations to include establishments in 315 cities, in 58 countries worldwide.
