PM Papandreou meets Libyan leader Kadhafi

The Libyan revolutionary leader, Mouamar Kadhafi, on Wednesday granted audience to the Greek Prime Minister, Gorges Papandreou, who arrived in the Libyan capital, Tripoli, for a visit.
A Libyan source said during the audience with Kadhafi, the two leaders focused on several issues of common interest including the situation prevailing in the Mediterranean basin, the tragic situation in the Palestinian occupied territories and the sufferings of the Palestinian people.
The Greek Prime Minister and the secretary of the Libyan general people’s committee, Dr Baghadi Mahmoudi, who were at the meeting, informed Kadhafi about the outcome of their talks held earlier in the day which focused on the promotion of cooperation between the two countries in all domains.
The talks enabled them to assess the results of the bilateral talks held during a visit made by Dr Baghdadi to Greece on 20 and 21 May this year, during which they agreed to promote their bilateral cooperation by taking it to the status of strategic cooperation.
They also signed a memorandum of understanding which includes the completion of the judicial framework as a prelude to the signing of agreements on strategic cooperation to promote and guarantee investment and non-double taxation between the two countries.
The two officials agreed to promote cooperation in the domains of oil, gas and renewable energy sources.
They also agreed to encourage the movement of tourists between the two countries, activate tourism in the archaeological sites in the region of Jabal Al-Akhdhar in the north-east of Libya, as well increase trade between the two countries and encourage implementation of common projects, particularly small and medium size business in Libya.
