Greek PM Papanderou's Comments in Crete

Prime Minister George Papandreou offered a speech opening the 3 day conference of The World Council of Cretans held in Agios Nikolaos, Lassithi on the island of Crete.  
Papandreou stated: “We are called today to do the revolution of the self-evident” regarding efforts being made to take the country out of the crisis.   He also added that a “collective effort is need in order to take the country out of the crisis”.
He aknowledged work already done by Cretan expatriates in supporting Greece and thanked them for all these efforts. “Your presence here is very important because it is a vote of confidence to our country” the Prime Minister stated.
Regarding the island of Crete, Papandrou accused the former reigning party, New Democracy of “abandoning Crete at its fate”  while underlying the need for the shaping of a new model for growth of the island.
As far as the current energy policy issues are concerned, Papandreou said the strategic policy of his government was the renewable energy sources and announced that the government was examining the issue of establishing an energy link between Crete and continental Greece. “The big wager is to make Crete an energy hub” stated the Prime Minister.
He also called on expatriate Greeks to invest in Greece and: “participate in the cosmogony of changes taking place”.
