Public Issue Poll Reveals Greece is Dissatisfied with Current Government

An overwhelming majority of Greeks are discontent with the government’s handling of key issues such as rising unemployment and inflation according to a new poll conducted, which also documented amazingly diminishing support for the socialist government.
According to this Public Issue Poll published in the Greek newspaper “Kathimerini”, 92% of Greeks said both unemployment and the country’s inflation rate had worsened during the ten months of socialist rule. Only 2% thought either had improved. The poll also showed declining public approval for each of the government’s 15 cabinet ministers as well as Prime Minister George Papandreou, compared with a similar survey conducted three months earlier.
On average, poll respondents gave Prime Minister Papandreou a 6.1 score on a scale of 1 to 10 when asked to rate his job performance so far. This figure is downsized regarding to his 7.2 score three months ago.
Finance Minister George Papaconstantinou recieved the sharpest drop in ratings with a new score of 4.7 points in the latest poll, down from 6.7 points previously.
However the poll also showed a positive public response to a string of recent success by police and security forces that have led to a crack down on local urban guerilla groups and crime. Some 36% of respondents said neighborhood policing had improved since the October elections which brought the socialists to power, compared with 31% who thought the situation had worsened.
