"The Mechanism of Antikythera" Exhibition on Display in Kythera

“The Mechanism of Antikythera” exhibition is on display on the southwestern Aegean island of Kythera until Sept. 19th.  The exhibit is an initiative by The Ministry of Education.
The exhibition opened on Aug. 11th in Potamos, Kythera and on Aug. 19th it will be transferred to the main town of Chora.
Exhibit followers will be able to learn about the history of the ancient mechanism that is believed to be an ancient mechanical calculator or “mechanical computer” designed to calculate astronomical positions.
The artifact was discovered within an ancient shipwreck off the nearby isle of Antikythera.  Antikythera is located between Kythera and Crete . Its approximate orgin is around 150-100 BC. Scholars noted that technological devises of similar complexity appeared a thousand years later.
