Firefighters Battle Greek Blazes

Greek firefighters are battling large forest fires on three Greek islands and the mainland. The  blazes began on Tuesday on the  islands of Zakynthos, Kephallonia and Lefkada, and near the village of Zilefto in central Greece. Fortunately no inhabited areas are under threat.
Strong winds were hampering firefighting efforts and strengthening the flames. Around 250 firefighters are trying to extinguish the blazes and a fire department statement said reinforcements would be sent in case of an emergency.
The causes of the fires were unknown. Greece suffers destructive forest fires every summer although this year the damage so far has been comparatively small.
