National Exam Results Released

National exams results indicate that candidates for education have showed preference for university schools that ensure employment.  Higher admission grades were noted in literature, mathematics and music schools and lower grades in the elementary education departments. A deep drop in admission grades was noted in technical colleges due to the abolition of the grade 10 base. Education Minister Anna Diamantopoulou in a press interview on Wednesday, announced significant changes in the admission system. Exam results have been posted at schools and the websites of The Education Ministry (minedu.gov.gr) and ERT candidates who do not have access to the internet can be informed of the results by the Citizens’ Service Center by dialing 1500.
A total of 106, 189 students took part in the national exams while 84.368 were admitted at a 79.5%. success rate.
Registration in all tertiary education schools will be held from the 13th-30th of September.
Commenting on exam results, Diamantopoulou said admission grades for schools with a high demand were close to excellent. She also said that results were released on the same date as last year despite some problems and delays due to teachers refusal to correct the tests.
Changes in Tertiary Education System
Mrs. Diamantopoulou said that some changes in Tertiary Education admission system will be announced in October and implemented in 2013-2014. Changes will mainly refer to reduction of number of people involved in exams procedures, as over 30.000 people are occupied in several exam committees while The Education Ministry.
On his part the Education undersecretary described this year’s national exam procedures as one of the best in recent years. He added that 90%  of the candidates were admitted to tertiary education and now it is up to institutions to provide them with the necessary skills.
In response to admission to tertiary education with very low grades, Mrs. Diamantopoulou underlined that conditions of free access to tertiary education are being formulated to keep students in Greek universities .
