Striking Truckers March to Parliament

2,500 marching truck drivers visited the Parliament today in a demonstration.  They marched with Greek flags, as their voices shouted the words “shame” and “thieves”. These demonstrations are against the government’s planned labour market reforms.
Truck drivers plan to spend the night outside the Parliament’s steps while the stated reforms will addressed.
A small number of protesters threw water bottles and cups of coffee at riot police.  Police responded with the use of stun grenades.  No arrests have been made.
Trucks are parked along Athenian highways and busy roads since September 13th.  The act is in response against plans to abolish closed shop professions; professions protected by fixed fees and rates and strict licensing rules.
Truck drivers say the current governmental reforms are very sudden and shall bankrupt colleagues who have borrowed money to buy a truck license.
