Int'l Tourism Exhibition Concludes in Thessaloniki

The 26th International Tourism Exhibition, i.e. PHILOXENIA and the 1st Hotel & Professional Equipment Exhibition, i.e. HOTELIA-EXPRO & CLEAN took place in Thessaloniki this past weekend.  It was held from Thursday the 18th to Sunday the 21st.  Minister of Culture and Tourism Paul Geroulanou made the opening day speech at the I. Vellidis Conference Center.
This year PHILOXENIA, which is a division of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the Greek National Tourism Organization, brought together 320 exhibitors from Greece, Egypt, Albania, Brazil, Bulgaria, Ghana, India, Cyprus, Russia, Serbia, Syria, Turkey and Tunisia.
The exhibits spanned cultures from across the globe.  The Cyclades islands exhibition was very lively with ethnic music and dancing (in photo).  The set-up brought the observer straight back to the islands with its vivid colors and imagery.
The Philoxenia Tourism Awards took place on Thursday.  The Awards aim to highlight top destinations chosen by Greek travelers.  The awards were elected from an online voting competition.  In its 5th year, the event also awards the destination with the most growth within its category.  Categories include ski resorts, hotels & spas, etc.  These were judged by the following criteria:   Favorite seaside destination, favorite mountain/holiday destination, favorite city destination, best ski resort, favorite tourist destination abroad.  There is a new award category for the most environmentally friendly destination.
