Earthquake Rattles Mediterranean Island of Crete

Seismologists say a moderately strong earthquake with preliminary magnitude 5.2 has struck off the southern Greek island of Crete. There have been no initial reports of damage or injuries.
The undersea quake occurred at 9:50 a.m. Monday, some 230 miles south-southwest of Athens, according to the Athens Geodynamic Institute.
The quake was felt throughout Crete with residents reportedly rushing out of their homes in shock.
