The Goethe Institute in Thessaloniki hosts in collaboration with the Association of Greek Immigrants in Germany, an exhibition until July 3rd. It is dedicated to “Gastarbeiter” (guest workers), who left their country for a better future in Munich, the so called “line of hope”. Objects and personal items, such as suitcases, uniforms, documents, pictures of daily life, reveal a special chapter in the history of modern Greece. The exhibition focuses on those Greeks who decided to settle in “their second home” and come back in the 80s, and is based on their direct response. The aim of the exhibition is to outline the whole life of the immigrants from their departure, their journey, their new life in Germany and to their final return.
