Evangelos Venizelos

Finance minister Evangelos Venizelos met on Thursday morning with the heads of the European Commission (EC), European Central Bank (ECB) and International Monetary Fund (IMF) ‘Troika’ for finalization of the measures and interventions contained in the government’s Medium-Term Fiscal Strategy Framework programme and its application law setting out the specific tax measures, denationalization and structural changes.
Venizelos will brief the ruling PASOK party’s relevant parliamentary committee, which is already in session, before leaving in the afternoon for Brussels, where he will accompany prime minister George Papandreou for an EU summit.
Parliament’s Standing Committee on Economic Affairs will convene on Friday morning for the second reading of the Medium-Term programme, while the text of the programme’s application law will be released to the political parties the same day, ahead of the relevant parliamentary debate and vote.
A two-day debate on the Medium-Term programme opens Monday, ending on Tuesday with a vote in the parliament plenary.
Also on Tuesday, the parliamentary Standing Committee on Economic Affairs will begin discussion of the application law, which must be voted on in the plenary by June 30th.
