Ex-Pasok Politician Lost His Sight, But Not His Courage

His “NO Vote” to the Medium Fiscal Program.
“You are a tough guy” said his son when he returned from the Parliament. This is how Panagiotis Kouroublis was welcomed by his family.
Although there was a pressure from his party he did not succumb and preferred to be proud of himself and not just a follower. He did not vote in favor of the Medium Fiscal Program and the memorandum, which was demanded by the EU and Germany. His belief that it is a sign of resignation to follow and not taking honest decisions, meant he would do what his heart told him and this is what he did.
In an interview to a German journalist,  Kouroublis explained how he lost his sight when he was only ten, playing with a hand grenade in his home city, Agrinio. “Not only did the Germans not pay off their loans and repayments but they left hand grenades all over Greece”, he said in a steady voice.
The ex-politician lived in the Blind School of Thessaloniki while he was growing up and decided later to study law. He had been a member of the Pasok party for many years, but now he is determined to support the decisions of his ex-party selectively.
