6 Greeks out of 10 are not going on vacation this year, due to financial problems and high costs of ferry tickets.
ThisĀ is revealed in data coming from J. Karantinakis, President of Consumers Union of Workers of Greece GSEE. She noted that a family of four needs 600 euros on transport fares to travel to Crete,Ā while similar costs are needed to travel toĀ the Cyclades islands.
Karantinakis appealed to Greek shipping companies to addressĀ the issue and make special arrangements at least for low wage earners and pensioners.
Furthermore, she said that “according to rough estimates, local holidaymakers have been reduced this summer by 40 percent”.
