Government ministers from the Republic of Cyprus have resigned today on the request of Head of State Demetris Christofias after an unprecedented forceful popular protest following the recent explosion of a munitions charge which killed 13 and destroyed the most modern power plant on the island, resulting in an energy crisis. The announcement was made in state TV, which quoted government spokesman Stefanos Stefanou. The 11 members of the government will remain in their positions until the reshuffle, which is expected to be brought in over the next few days, added Stefanou.
