According to shocking documents of the Ministry of Interior Affairs, more than 300 brothels have been operating without permits, and authorities have been forced to shut them down. Currently, only 3 brothels have permits for operation. Local authorities in Attica had to close and ”reclose” illegal brothels in compliance with the law stating that brothels which do not fulfill all legal conditions face closure.
Minister H. Kastanidis noted that the Municipality of Athens has proposed reconsideration of the law regarding brothel operation in order to find a solution to the issue. All possible initiatives will be reexamined by the Ministries.
