Oil Constitutes "Casus Belli" for Cyprus and Turkey

The Turkish Ministry of Foreign affairs announced that the search for oil in the continental shelf of the eastern Mediterranean in Cyprus will provoke new conflicts between Cyprus and Turkey. It seems that the Turkish Ministry was informed that drilling will begin in October.
According to Turkey, these actions do not comply with the International Law and do not contribute to finding a solution for the Cyprus Question.
Turks support that the permissions given by the Republic of Cyprus are not valid, as the International law stipulates that the Exclusive Economic Zones are defined by the countries who are involved and the rights and interests of both sides must be taken into consideration.  As they note, the Greek Cypriots do not have the right to make agreements considering national resources which belong to the whole island and thus to infringe on the rights of the Turkish Cypriots.
According to them, these actions are considered irresponsible and have a negative effect on the peace and stability of the region.
