6 out of 10 Greeks Face Major Economic Problems

According to article in the Greek newspaper “Kathimerini”, 6 out of 10 Greeks face major economic problems.
The recent statistics reveal that even during sales, the purchasing power has been decreased and thus the turnover of the market has been diminished.
The number of sales has been reduced from last year by 7.6% at supermarkets, by 20.1% at the butcher’s and baker’s store, and by 12.3% at the filling stations.
Greeks are trying to save energy and money. The demand for electric power between January-July 2011  was reduced by 1,60% in comparison with last year.  On the other hand, the debts to the Electric Power Corporation (PPC) have been increased.
An open public consultation  has been organized to decide what to do about inconsistent payers.  It began on July 19th and will last till September 2nd.
At the end of July, the debts to the PPC reached 423 million euros compared to the end of 2010’s 385 million euros in debts.
