Cyprus Talks Resume on Tuesday

President of the Republic Demetris Christofias and Turkish Cypriot leader Dervis Eroglu will meet again on Tuesday, August 23, in the framework of direct talks for a Cyprus solution, following a brief summer break. According to a UN press release, the meeting will take place in the morning, at the Chief of Missions’ residence in the United Nations Protected Area of Nicosia. Speaking after the last all-day meeting, on August 2, UN Secretary General`s Special Advisor on Cyprus, Alexander Downer said the leaders spent a fairly long amount of time focusing on the issue of governance and power-sharing. “Leaders did discuss governance and power-sharing, and they will be meeting again on Friday (5 August) in a similar format. And we’ll take up from where we’ve left off today and focus on governance and power-sharing”, he said.
