Wall Street Journal: Misery in Athens Streets

The Wall Street Journal made a report regarding the economic state of Greece and included statements of shop owners who are forced to close their shops and apartment owners who cannot collect their rents.
According to the article, consumers’ outlay has decreased by 7% in comparison with last year. Around 80,000 businesses all over Greece have been bankrupted since 2010 and 200,000 more are expected to follow suit by the end of 2012.
The Wall Street Journal also underlined that elders take a 500 euro pension per month and are forced to search for food in the rubbish thrown out by local markets.
Also, unemployment among people between the ages of 15-24 has reached 40%.
