Museum of Messara (Crete) To Open in 2013


Minister of Culture and Tourism, Paul Geroulanos declared certain that the Museum of Messara will be ready to open in 2013, during his visit to the area. He also mentioned the issue of development of the archaeological park of Messara, which  aims to promote the Cretan region.
As the minister stressed, the construction of the Museum of Messara, when completed, is expected to upgrade the entire area and provide growth in the mainland. All the procedures for the construction of this important development project have been launched and this investment is expected to cost around 12 million euros.
Paul Geroulanos visited the region, accompanied by Secretary General of the ministry Lina Mendoni, the Prefect Stavros Arnaoutakis, Deputy Members Maria Skrafnaki and Manolis Stratakis, Mayors of Gortyna Nick Schinarakis and of Phaistos Maria Petrakogiorgi, the head of Prehistoric and Classical Antiquities Athanasia Kanta, and other officials.

The minister of Culture, also payed a visit at the Archaeological Museum of Heraklion which is expected to gradually open until the next Summer.
