A main issue of discussion was lately the worship place of the Muslims in Salonika asĀ the city hosts app. 5.000 Muslims. Local and governmental bodies tried to find a place where all sides could be satisfied. Both Bartholomew and the Turkish consul asked kindly from Boutaris, the mayor of Salonika, to provide Muslims a placeĀ where they canĀ apply their religious freedoms.
According to the mayor a very convenient area could be the mosque in ”Pavlos Mela” military camp, which used to be a worship place of the devoted in the past. The Muslim Community would prefer the mosque of Alatza Imaret in Kassandrou Str,Ā as it could host more worshipers. However, they noted that every descent worship area would be welcomed.
