US-based Noble Energy has discovered gas in Block 12 of Cyprus’ Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ). The reserve is thought to be 30-40% higher than estimated, according to a report by the Philelftheros newspaper.
Microscopic bubbles of gas are already coming to the surface and everything is ready for the final stage of drilling, says the report.
Turkey, a country that opposes the drilling until the divided island is unified, has been flying fighting jets over the cypriot airspace daily.
This policy has caused outrage in United States. According to an article of the “Wall Street Journal”, Secretary of State Hilary Clinton made an appeal to the Turkish government to stop the air-interventions in the region.
