Finance Minister of Skopje Says Declare Greece Bankrupt

The European Union should declare Greece’s bankruptcy official, according to Zoran Stavreski, Skopje’s Finance Minister and Deputy Prime Minister.
Skopje and Greece share borders, currently effectively closed because of a strike by Greek customs officers who have joined in protests against Athens’s austerity measures, and the two countries share a troubled relationship because of the “name dispute” arising from Skopje’s use of the name “Republic of Macedonia”.
Stavreski was quoted as saying that the border closure, which is expected to last several more days, was causing economic losses to Skopje for which it would not get compensation.
“The situation in Greece is becoming more serious and it is almost certain that within the near future the country will not be able to fully pay its debts. My expectations are that a controlled bankruptcy will occur, where European countries and Greece agree on the percentage of the Greek debt regarding state bonds it cannot pay back,” local media quoted Stavreski as saying.
