New Strikes at the Beginning of November

Adedy, one of Greece’s major trade unions gathering employees in the state sector is organizing further protests against the austerity measures adopted by Giorgios Papandreou’s government.
The protests are due to take place in the first ten days of November. In the meanwhile, the owners of taxis, trucks and tankers have announced that the strike will go on for an indefinite amount of time if the draft bill concerning complete liberalization of their jobs is taken to the Parliament without being amended. Tomorrow, on Thursday, the strike called by the employees of the Finance Ministry , which started on October 17th, will come to an end.
Today and tomorrow, lawyers all around Greece will refrain from working, according to a decision made by their official professional association and are planning a further strike lasting 48 hours for Thursday November 3rd and Friday November 4th. According to a statement issued by their professional associations, Greek lawyers “express their opposition to this ongoing and unprecedented attack to the citizens’ fundamental rights, which are granted by the Constitution, through the measures adopted by the government”. Also the drivers of extra-city buses will continue their strike tomorrow and threaten to block all exits to the buses main stations.
