Schaeuble: Urges Quick Clarity Over Way Ahead For Greece

German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble urges the Greek government to carry out as quickly as possible the planned referendum over the country΄s latest bailout package, according to an interview Wednesday in Hamburger Abendblatt.
“It would be helpful to obtain clarity as quickly as possible over which way Greece wants to follow,” Schaeuble is quoted as saying in the newspaper.
Greece΄s cabinet Wednesday approved plans for a referendum on the country΄s latest, EUR130 billion bailout package despite an open revolt by ruling-party lawmakers and amid fears the referendum could stoke further uncertainty in global financial markets.
Schaeuble reminds in the interview that European leaders last week agreed on a comprehensive package to stabilize the euro zone, including the key elements of a second bailout package for Greece.
“We assume that Greece is aware of its responsibility and will carry out the measures agreed upon together and unanimously,” Schaeuble says in the newspaper.
