Large Cruise Company to Invest in Greece

Royal Caribbean Cruises Company, one of the largest cruise companies in the world, is about to invest in Greece. According to sources the company has selected the port of Heraklion in Crete investing in port infrastructure, construction of a hotel and a conference centre.
Moreover, Royal Caribbean Cruises had been targeting five more Greek ports: Piraeus, Thessaloniki, Rhodes, Kos and Mykonos.The plan is to transform one of these ports, possibly Heraklion port, into a cruise hub, which will bring in thousands of visitors each day.
The port of Heraklion could see in two large cruise ships of 2,500 passengers each in daily basis for more than 220 days a year.
According to a 5-year plan, Royal Caribbean estimates that more than 800,000 passengers per year would visit Heraklion, while the annual revenue is estimated to exceed €3 million.
