Finance minister Evangelos Venizelos said the country had fulfilled the requirements to receive the 6th tranche of its bailout. The EUR8 billion slice is vital to keep Greece funded after mid-December.
“The necessary conditions for the next tranche disbursement and the PSI are in place. We have the necessary political conditions and national commitment to go ahead,” Venizelos said speaking to reporters ahead of a meeting of the 17 euro area finance ministers in Brussels Tuesday.
Greece is currently in negotiations with its private-sector creditors to agree on a voluntary 50% write-down in the face value of their Greek bond holdings, a programme known as “PSI” or private-sector involvement.
