The Association of Owners of Funeral Services have proceeded with their first strike in the city of Thessaloniki on Thursday, after the Finance Ministry decided to declare that hearse vehicles will be taxed just as any other “luxurious private car”.
The protest action began at 11 a.m. from the Thermi Cemeteries and end up at the Prefecture of Central Macedonia building.
Similar protests found place in Kozani, where the owners of funeral services took their so far “professional vehicles” and blocked some main streets.
According to the new regulation, funeral service owners will have to pay €800-1.200 per year for each hearse they own depending on the displacement of the vehicle.
Funeral service owners gave a deadline to the government and threaten to expand their protest actions. They threatened to even to stop transporting dead from the hospitals.
