Cyprus Talks Resume Today

UN-backed talks for a solution to the Cyprus problem resume today, following a two week holiday break.
The meeting between Cyprus President Demetris Christofias and Turkish Cypriot leader Dervis Eroglu will take place at 1000 local time (0800 GMT).
During their last meeting on December 19, the community leaders discussed EU matters. UNSG Special Representative Lisa Buttenheim told the press that the leaders “discussed EU matters and clarified their positions in a sincere manner“.
The two leaders are set to meet UNSG at GreenTree mansion in Long Island, New York the end of January. The last meeting at the same venue took place end of October.
The first meeting between the two leaders and the UNSG took place in November 2010, followed by two more meetings held in Geneva on January 26 and July 7, 2011.
