DEPA S.A. Examining Energy Connection Between Greece and Cyprus

According to Environment and Energy Minister George Papaconstantinou, public gas corporation DEPA S.A. conducted a study on the potential of constructing an underwater pipeline connecting Cyprus and Greece.
The construction project “is entirely feasible from a technical aspect”, Papaconstantinou stated in the Cypriot edition of Kathimerini on Sunday. The pipeline would transmit natural gas from Cyprus to Greece via the island of Crete.
For DEPA to proceed with the plan, the economic viability of the project must first be investigated, while the Greek Minister also noted that Greece can receive liquefied gas too.
Moreover, during his talks in Nicosia last week, Papaconstantinou discussed the matter of a possible connection of Greece’s electricity network with the Cypriot one.
