General State Archives of Greece Under Cyber Attack

The new austerity legislation passed on Sunday has triggered rage, violent outbursts and looting in the city of Athens, but these were not the only attacks.
The “Greek Hacking Scene” attacked the official website of the country’s General State Archives (GAK) to protest the government’s signing of the new Memorandum and the consequent anti-popular measures imposed by the EU and IMF.
Following the lead of “Anonymous”, another computer hacking team that had attacked the website of the Greek Justice Ministry on February 3, the “Group Hacking Scene” forced GAK to take down its site, which displayed different videos, including the swearing-in of former PM George Papandreou and past riots and clashes in Athens downtown.
“A country that forgets its history is condemned to relive it” read the message delivered by the hacking team.
Among others, the posted video included clips from TV shows on Extra and Ant1 channels, from shows presented by reporters K. Chardavellas and M. Triantafyllopoulos, as well as the front pages from the daily “Eleftheri Ora”. At the bottom of the website appeared the Church of Agia Sofia in Istanbul.
