LAOS Expelled MPs Move to ND Party

Popular Orthodox Rally (LAOS) expelled MPs Makis Voridis and Adonis Georgiadis announced on Friday their move to the New Democracy (ND) party, following a meeting with ND leader Antonis Samaras, adding that they were also “giving back” their parliamentary seats to LAOS.
Voridis and Georgiadis, who were expelled from the LAOS party after defying the party line and voting in favour of the new EU/IMF economic programme for Greece in Sunday night’s parliamentary vote, said in statements to the press that in these critical hours Greece needs the existence of a large, stable political party.
The two men will be candidates in the wider Athens electoral districts in the next general elections.
“The next elections will determine whether Greece will remain a member of the EU and the eurozone. Greece needs a strong leadership that will give hope again to the country. The only organised party is Antonis Samaras’ ND, which represents the hope that Greece will not become a second Syria,” Georgiadis said after the meeting.
Voridis, in turn, stressed: “In these moments, which are exceptionally critical, what needs to be ensured is a credible major patriotic liberal party that will not only be able to stand with credibility across the lenders, but will also be able to guarantee to the citizens that development will come. Antonis Samaras took difficult decisions, I fell that I must stand at his side.”
The two LAOS renegades, who became Independent MPs after their expulsion from the party, stated that they would resign their parliamentary seats, which revert back to LAOS.
