Greeks Suffer from Online Gambling Addiction According to Recent Study

Greeks turn out to be “addicted” to online gambling, since more than 400,000 people gambled online during the past year (26% of the people who performed online transactions), 100,000 of which are considered regulars, according to a study of the e-business research center, ELTRUN , of the University of Economy of Athens.
The research showed that the common Greek online consumer practicing online gambling spends a considerable time using the Internet (23.3 hours/week), which implies symptoms of addiction.
Greek users are also considered ‘professional’ online buyers, since they place an average of 16.2 buys/year and spend approximately 1,450 Euros/year.
Concerning the age of the Greek users performing online gambling the last two years, despite the fact that there are increasingly older users (increase of gambling of users aged 43-50 from 3% to 8%), there seems to be an increase of 8% for young users.
Those percentages mean that more than 30,000 young users (aged 14-20 years old) claim to participate in online casino games, bets and other gambling games. More and more studies confirm that the number of adolescents giving in to online gambling is regularly increasing during the last years, exhibiting addiction tendency.
