The French Institute of Athens Pays Tribute to Theo Angelopoulos

The auditorium of the French Institute of Athens (IFA) will from now on be named “Theodoros Angelopoulos”, according to the decision of the Institute to pay tribute to the internationally acclaimed Greek filmmaker “who had been a true friend of the French language and had promoted Greek-French cultural relations”.

The 13th French Language Film Festival commencing on March 21 will feature a short tribute film directed by Nikos Lyggeris to honor the recently deceased filmmaker, who had been the president of last year’s festival.

“The Greek situation is very harsh and will become even more unbearable if cinema halls burn down” said the art director of the Festival, making a direct reference to the fire attack against the historic Attikon cinema of Athens.
