Minister to Purge Staff Over Blackmail Case

Greece’s new development minister on Thursday announced a purge of the ministry’s entire investment department after two of its members were arrested for alleged blackmail.
‘We must show zero tolerance towards those who break their vows,’ Anna Diamantopoulou told reporters, adding that she had demanded the resignations of nearly a hundred civil servants attached to the department, the Athens News Agency said.
Replacements are already being sought for the vacant posts, said Ms Diamantopoulou, who took over the ministry last week.
The two investment officials were arrested in Athens this week with the sum of 120,000 euros (S$198,330) allegedly extorted from two brothers who had been trying to build a hotel in the Peloponnese since 2005.
