The expatriate professor of Political Science at Michigan University, Mr. George Tsempelis, resigned from the National Council for Research and Technology in Greece.
He was contributing to the Council’s research for almost a year as an honorary counselor.
As Mr. Tsempelis announced, his resignation came as a result of the bad and declining situation at Greek Universities, in combination with the uncontrolled supremacy of the partisanship.
In his revealing letter of March 30, 2012 he mentions that “when my term of office in the commitee began, I realized that the situation was much worse than what I thought it would be”. He continues saying that “instead of facing reality, we wear some party-like blinkers, in order to refuse what we see”.
“I dealt with all this from the very first moment, because I believe that our country needs help to reform the education system”, states the expatriate professor.
As for the controversial law voted on while Anna Diamantopoulou was Minister of Education, Mr. Tsempelis commented: “What should someone firstly admire? The position of the present Minister of Education, George Mpampiniotis, announcing that his decision is valuable, as long as the Prime Minister and two under-secretaries (each of the two big political parties) support him? Or the fact that they made a joke about this situation saying the only thing they were not aware of, is that they are not sure whether Nea Dimokratia or Pasok will govern in a while?”
