Athens Hosts the Italian Film Festival

From April 19-25, Athenians will have the opportunity to watch 26 movies of modern Italian cinema. The film screenings will take place at the IDEAL and ELLI cinemas.
This festival will not be showing Hollywood movies, but rather more independent ones of equal or even better quality.
Besides a trip to Italy through the cinema’s wide screen, the visitors may also taste traditional Italian dishes. This Italian experience should not disappoint!
During the opening ceremony of the Italian Film Festival, the new film “Apartamento ad Atene”(“Apartment in Athens”) will be released for the very first time in Greece, an appropriate title for this Festival since it combines Italian cinema with the hosting city of Athens.
Ruggero Dipaola, the editor of the movie, will attend the festival. Greek actor Gerasimos Skiadaressis and Italian Laura Morente, both starring in the film, will also join at IDEAL cinemas the same day.
The plot brings us back to Athens in 1942 when it was occupied by the Germans. In a flat somewhere near the Acropolis, a Greek family deals with the change when the Germans come to Athens.
The audience may also enjoy two more movies at ELLI cinema – the comedy drama film “La Donna della Mia Vita” (“The Woman of My Life”), by Luca Lucini, and the “L’uomo Che Verra” (“The Man Who Will Come”) by Giorgio Diritti.
The Italian “Festa” includes many other surprise activities. Every year, Greek audiences will have the chance to meet a famous actor of modern Italian cinema. Greek star Nicolas Vaporidis, given the name “Il divo delle magazine (The Girls’ God),” who works in Italian cinema, is the first actor to be invited.
Special Italian dishes and drinks will be offered at affordable prices after the screening.
Most importantly, “no distributor brought these films to Greece,” according to cinema critic Panagiotis Timogiannakis, “so we decided to bring them on our own!”
