Cretan Olive Oil Excels At 5th Olive Oil and Oil Festival

Once again, the Cretan olive oil excelled for its high quality standards and received numerous awards during the 3rd Greek Olive Oil Competition that took place within the 5th Olive Oil and Olives Festival held in Athens from April 6-8.
The 5th Festival for Olive Oil & Olives, which is the most important annual meeting of the Olive Industry in Greece, was hosted this year at the S.E.F. Stadium.
According to the announcement of the Chamber of Heraklion, the Cretan Olive Oil Network represented 22 olive oils from Crete for the year 2011-2012.
Amidst 84 samples from areas all across Greece, the Cretan products were presented with three gold, five silver and four bronze awards in the categories of light, middle and heavy flavor, justifying and granting their leading position in the olive oil production of Greece.
Mr. M. Fragkakis, President of the Network, who personally presented the winners with their awards during the three day long event, commented that for the past few years the Greek olive oil producers have been placing greater value on their products’ quality.
“We must keep up the good work and secure Greece as the first place of extra virgin olive oil production around the world,” noted Fragkakis.
The 5th Festival was supported by all bodies of the sector and the Hellenic scientific community. Being a central meeting place for people in the olive business in Greece, the exhibition was visited by ambassadors and trade attendants from around the world, suppliers of supermarket chains, hotel and shipping businesses as well as restaurants and eating establishments.
