Cyprus: Turkish 'Plan B' Violates UN Resolutions, Spokesman Stresses

Stephanos Stephanou

Cypriot government spokesman Stephanos Stephanou said that Plan B for a solution to the Cyprus issue that Ankara is advertising is against international law and violates UN resolutions.
Stephanou made the remark after being invited to comment on a report in the Turkish Milliyet newspaper, saying that Turkey plans to implement a Plan B on Cyprus if there is no settlement by July 1, which is when Cyprus will assume the EU rotating Presidency.
At the same time, the spokesman rejected that July 1 is a deadline, reminding people that the President of the Republic, Demetris Christofias, has repeatedly expressed his readiness to continue the negotiations after July.
“Turkey is advertising a Plan B and is promoting it, something which the international community must see. The plan is against international law, the UN decisions on Cyprus and the Cyprus issue as well as the EU’s decisions and positions, where Turkey aspires to join,” Stephanou noted.
